Anthropology Museum

Presentation day!

Today I had my first presentation of the course. It was at Ometeotl and the cosmovision of the Aztecs and their structure of the universe, and it went great! Doctora told me that I presented like an actual tour guide and not just like I was giving some random presentation.

The Anthropology Museum was really cool in itself. It is HUGE. We only saw two out of the however many rooms there are. We present in the museum, which is an interesting way to do it, but I would have liked more time to explore.

Piedra del Sol (Aztec Sun Stone)

How the Piedra del Sol looked with its colors

The Piedra del Sol is really, really cool. It basically encompasses all of the Aztec cosmovision. In the middle is (probably) the figure of Tlaltecuhtli, the goddess I mentioned earlier from whom the earth was formed.

I don't remember what this is, but Doctora got
in the shot, so now yall can see what
she looks like!
Ah, the Aztec ball game. They use their hips, and the ball is super heavy so they have to wear a special sort of belt. The ball was rubber, just a super compact little ball. The game is meant to represent the constant fight between the sun and the moon, light and darkness, etc., and the players represent the different gods.

The ball. On the right is Jenny, our local coordinator.
There are so many interesting deities it's not even funny.

Coatlicue, with a skirt of serpents and two
serpents replacing her decapitated head.

Quetzalcoatl, the plumed serpent

There was also a big replica of Teotihuacan's wall from the Temple of the Plumed Serpent.

Just an overall really cool place.

We ate quesadillas after the museum. They were nothing like the Americanized version. They were crispy and brown and fried and delicious. I had three, one of huitlacoche (corn smut), one of pumpkin flower, and one of pork. I also had a sope with cheese and nopal, a type of cactus here. It was interesting to say the least. I bought a delicious carmelized fig from a vendor outside the restaurant. I didn't feel too well after all of that, but there's no telling which new and strange thing caused it, and I am of course so glad I got to try them all.

Another lovely day.

Also, if you guys want to get in contact with me while I'm here, say hi, ask me about my trip, anything, I am on groupme, Whatsapp, Google hangouts, and Facebook messenger, and you can voice or video call me on google plus or video call me on Skype. I'm also checking email every day. Basically the only things you guys can't do without extra charges is call or text me the normal way, so don't be a stranger.
